The Wonder of Purpose

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart” (Jeremiah 1:5, NLT).

A group of Irish peasants in the depression era were hired by a wealthy benefactor to build some roads. When they started the job the men worked well, they sang their Irish songs and put their total energies into the job. They were so glad to be back to work again. However, little by little they discovered that the roads they were building were not leading anywhere. They simply ran out into the country-side and stopped. This philanthropic gentleman, meaning well, had given them a meaningless job in order to feed them and supply a living wage. As the truth began to dawn on them, they stopped their singing, lost their enthusiasm, and became listless.

This incident reminds us of an important truth; for a person to work well and sing there must be an end in sight. The roads to nowhere are difficult to build.

Many are working, trying to build their lives, but have lost enthusiasm. Just trudging on day after day, going nowhere, having no joy, no song, because the roads of life aren’t leading anywhere. Knowing our God appointed purpose makes life more vibrant as it gives us direction, hope, and a clearly defined vision and goal. Without purpose, we just meander around aimlessly.

Do you feel your life lacks meaning? Does your road stretch out to nowhere? I wish to encourage you to bring Jesus Christ on the scene and allow Him to change everything. The transformation Jesus brings is life-altering, and confirms the purpose God has had for you from the very moment you were formed in your mother’s womb. He supplies the wonder of a life of purpose, a life of meaning and joy. Seek Him today and make a new discovery, or reaffirm the commitment to follow God’s direction. Dream big, live vibrantly, and work with enthusiasm – that is possible when you claim the purpose of God in your life. Destroy the doubt and silence the negative voices. When you know your purpose, the destination is always in sight, and there is always joy in the journey.

Pray with Me:

God, I rejoice in the fact that before I was formed in my mother’s womb you knew me, and set me apart for a purpose. Today, I choose to discover that purpose as I seek your will for my life. I commit to follow you in the fulfillment of that purpose, and to shed all fear and discouragement that holds me back as you empower me. Thank you for loving me enough to appoint me for a divine task and purpose. Amen.
