“For
we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do
the good things he planned for us long ago” (Ephesians 2:10,
NLT).
A lady who had a small house on the seashore of Ireland
at the turn of the century was quite wealthy but also quite frugal. The people
were surprised, then, when she decided to be among the first to have
electricity in her home.
Several weeks after the installation, a meter reader
appeared at her door. He asked if her electricity was working well, and she
assured him it was. “I’m wondering if you can explain something to me,” he
said. “Your meter shows scarcely any usage. Are you using your power?”
“Certainly,” she answered. “Each evening when the sun
sets, I turn on my lights just long enough to light my candles; then I turn
them off.”
This lady was doing literally, what many do
spiritually. She tapped into the power but did not use it. Her house was connected
but not altered as she merely used the “new” power long enough to guide her to
the “old” power. She refused to undergo transformation although the source and
sustenance of such transformation was available to her.
Do we make the same mistake? Often, we may live in the
assurance that our souls are saved but live with unchanged hearts. It is
possible to be connected but not altered, and to place trust in Christ for
salvation but resist transformation. In my estimation, many Christians will
occasionally flip the switch, but most of the time settle for shadows. Allow me
to encourage you to today to live in the transforming power that has been
placed within your life! The power of the Holy Spirit, given liberty to
operate, takes the masterpiece that is your life, and develops it into all that
He planned for you long ago. Don’t return to a dimly lit existence; embrace the
illumination of the Spirit, and be transformed into vibrant life!
